Though it did not mint money at the box office, Sonam Kapoor’s Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga received glowing praise from critics and fans alike. The film was a same-sex love story, which is a rare feat for Bollywood.

Talking about EKDTAL, Sonam expressed happiness that her film was one of the first few in Bollywood to address the topic. “Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga had to be the first film me and my dad had to do together! Parents needed to see Anil Kapoor telling Sonam Kapoor that it’s ok to love who you love,” adding, “I’m glad that Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga was the first commercial, mainstream Bollywood film that normalised a lesbian relationship,” she said in an interview to a portal.

In the film, Sonam played the role of Sweety, who falls in love with another girl and how she fights with society as well as her family for her rights.

The film was directed by Shelly Dhar and featured Anil Kapoor, Juhi Chawla and Rajkummar Rao in pivotal roles.

On the work front, Sonam is busy with The Zoya Factor, which stars Dulquer Salmaan. It is based on Anuja Chauhan’s book with the same name.
