Assam Police on Tuesday arrested a JMB trained terrorist from Barpeta district in the state. Police arrested the JMB terrorist, identified as 25-year-old Azhar Ali alias Azharuddin Ahmed alias Azharuddin Ali, from Barpeta area.
Barpeta district Superintendent of Police (SP) Robin Kumar said, “We were tracking him for so long but he was outside Assam most of the times. We got an intelligence input that he is coming to Barpeta and an operation was conducted and he was arrested.”
The JMB trained terrorist hailing from Rowmari Pathar village under Tarabari police station in Barpeta district, was wanted in SOU case no 1/2014 U/S 120 (B)/121/121 (A)/122/123 IPC R/W Sec 10/13/16/18 (A)/18 (B)/20 UAP act and 4/5 ES Act.
“He was absconding for past five years and we finally caught him. He was also wanted in Barpeta police station case no.1557/19 US 121/121(A)/123 IPC, R/W SEC 25 (1-A) Arms Act and Sec 10/13 UA(P) Act,” Robin Kumar said.
On Wednesday, the arrested JMB terrorist was produced before a local court. The court has sent him to seven-day police remand.
Following the Burdwan blast in 2014, the security agencies had arrested 15 JMB terrorists from different locations in Assam. The security agencies had also busted several JMB camps, modules in the state.
Recently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had disclosed that the JMB has increased their activities in Bihar, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka.
While the security agencies have claimed to have curbed the JMB activities in Assam, the terror activities of the terrorist group are still going on in the northeastern state and there is still a threat looming large.
